How often does the troop camp? We camp monthly during the school year. During the summer, we attend a week-long camp and also offer a high-adventure opportunity for the older scouts.
How much does the program cost? Troop 179 assesses dues of $5 per month. This covers BSA membership fees, Boys' Life magazine and expenses for troop equipment and advancement program. Monthly outings range in cost from $10 to $50, depending on the location and activity. Summer Camp cost approximately $250. Scouts are encouraged to participate in troop fund-raising activities, or otherwise earn a portion of their fees to reduce the cost to their families.
What does "Boy-Led" mean in Scouting?
In Boy Scouting, the scouts decide on their activities, they plan them and then carry out the plan, with the assistance and guidance of the adult leaders. The Patrol Leaders and Senior Patrol Leader are elected by their peers and with the assistance of other troop and patrol officers lead the troop or patrols.
What types of activities does the troop do on camp outs? Activities vary according to the month's theme, such as hiking, climbing, canoeing, swimming, rifle shooting, orienteering, geo-caching, or fishing.
